What Causes Breasts to Sag?

Sometimes in age, after a dramatic weight loss, or pregnancy, and breast-feeding, the breasts may begin to lose their shape and firmness and require a Breast Lift Procedure in order to re-create their former appearance. Some patients also note a decrease in size, or perhaps were never quite happy with their natural size and for these patients, a breast augmentation with a breast lift may be the best solution to create the look desired.

Breast Lift Candidates

Good candidates for the Breast Lift Procedures may have breasts that are the size they desire, but that have begun to sag or droop downwards. They may have breasts that have lost their firmness and/or nipples and areolas that point downwards. Ideal candidates are in good health with no illnesses that would negatively affect your body’s healing after the procedure or add any extra risks during the procedure. Finally, potential patients need to have realistic expectations for the procedure and the possible results it will produce.

Choosing the Right Surgeon

The foremost thing you should do once you have begun to seriously consider a Breast Lift Procedure for yourself is to begin to research prospective plastic surgeons. You will want to find out their credentials, education, experience, and take a look at their previous work. It is also helpful to read or hear what their past and current patients have to say about their experiences. Then, once you have narrowed down your choices or chosen a plastic surgeon you think fits the bill, you will want to schedule a consultation with them. Some consultations are free, but not all are so be sure to ask beforehand.

During your Breast Lift consultation

During your consultation, your plastic surgeon will examine your breasts and talk to you about your goals and concerns. They will ask you about your medical history and lifestyle. They will be trying to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure and if this procedure is the right one for you. Keep in mind, this is as much an interview of them for you as it is of you for them, so bring in your questions and ask, ask, ask away! Once the plastic surgeon has determined that you are a good candidate for the breast lift procedure and you have determined that they are a good plastic surgeon for the procedure, the two of you can begin to talk about the procedure plan.

Breast Lift Financing

Since Breast Lift surgeries are considered a cosmetic procedure, they are not typically covered by insurance. Many plastic surgeons these days, however, work with financing companies to help their patients get the results when they want them while being able to pay off the cost in more manageable increments. Ask your plastic surgeon about financing if you are feeling concerned about the costs- and speaking of costs, it can vary from one plastic surgeon to the next depending on a great many variables, so ask and don’t assume! Also, keep in mind, with surgery a bargain rate is usually not worth the risk. It is often true; you get what you pay for.

What You Should Know Before Getting a Breast Lift

Lastly, Breast Lift can be a wonderful, rejuvenating procedure that can help boost body confidence following childbirth and nursing, weight loss or those later in age. It is, however, still a surgical procedure and as such there are always risks. Discussing these risks with your plastic surgeon is the best way to determine if this is the right procedure for you. There are many variables to take into account in a Breast Lift, and many incision techniques to consider; having the right plastic surgeon on your side will make all of these decisions that much easier. So, do your research, and don’t forget to ask, ask, ask away!
